How does 24/7 Onboard Recording work alongside my existing video service?

24/7 Onboard Recording is designed to complement your existing video service. An active video service subscription is required — and with it comes the full benefit of Video Analytics, which continues to detect events and deliver clips as normal. Onboard recording adds a continuous layer on top, capturing everything between those events and storing it locally on your device. Together they give you a more complete picture of what happened.

Which cameras support 24/7 Onboard Recording?

Most Alarm.com cameras support 24/7 Onboard Recording via a compatible microSD card. The ADC-VDB750, ADC-VDB780B, and ADC-V731B do not support onboard recording. For PoE cameras like the ADC-VDB755P, continuous recording is available through a connected SVR. Your service provider can confirm compatibility for your specific setup.

How long will my footage be stored?

Storage duration depends on the capacity of your microSD card, the number of cameras recording, and the level of activity in your footage. When the card reaches capacity, the oldest footage is automatically overwritten to make room for new recordings. Your service provider can help you choose a card size that matches your retention needs.

What happens to my footage if the network goes down?

How is my footage protected?

All onboard footage is encrypted directly on your device and accessible only through the Alarm.com app or customer website. Even if the microSD card is removed or stolen, the footage on it cannot be viewed outside of Alarm.com. Built-in SD card health monitoring also checks your card regularly and alerts you if something needs attention.

Can I download and save footage?

Yes. The Download Manager on the Alarm.com customer website lets you request, track, and manage footage exports in one place. Monitor export progress in real time, retry if needed, and handle multiple downloads at once. Download Manager is currently available on the Alarm.com customer website only.
