How does the spotlight work?

The V730's integrated spotlight activates automatically on motion, runs on a schedule, or turns on manually from the Alarm.com app. Choose from three modes: solid for pathway and entry lighting, or blinking and pulsing patterns that signal an active response. When the spotlight is on, the camera records in full color.

Can it do anything to deter someone, not just record them?

Yes, and this is one of the things that sets Alarm.com cameras apart. The V730 supports Perimeter Guard®, which automatically triggers an audio warning when someone enters a zone you've defined. The built-in spotlight activates and a powerful speaker backs it up. For more proactive protection, AI Deterrence is available as an optional add-on, using AI-generated voice messages that respond when a person is detected. Remote Video Monitoring is also available, where trained monitoring agents can intervene in real time and dispatch emergency services when needed.

What is the difference between a spotlight camera and a floodlight camera?

Spotlight cameras like the V730 provide focused illumination on targeted spaces — entryways, pathways, and side gates where precise coverage is needed. Floodlight cameras like the V729 deliver broad, high-output illumination across wider spaces like driveways and backyards. Both support the full Alarm.com deterrence suite. The right choice depends on what your property needs covered.

Where does the footage get saved?

You have options. The V730 supports cloud-based clip recording as well as local recording with a microSD card. The VC730P also supports hardwired recording to an Alarm.com Stream Video Recorder (SVR) for continuous, on-device storage. Your service provider can help you find the right setup for your property.

Does it work without a security system?

The V730 requires an Alarm.com service plan, which your service provider can help you set up. If you already have an Alarm.com security system, the V730 connects directly to it, giving you video and security in one place. If you're starting with just a camera, your service provider can help you find the right plan and expand from there.

What add-ons are available for the V730?
